History of Skyward
The Origin Story
Ronald and Susan Corrado founded Skyward Aviation at Washington County Airport (AFJ) in 1993 – originally as “Skyword”, a helicopter business offering rides, flight instruction, and aerial advertising. In 1995, they renamed the business Skyward Aviation and began managing a charter fleet. Building on Ronald’s 21 years of experience in the Army as a Maintenance Officer (Chief Warrant Officer 4) and test pilot, the Corrados worked tirelessly to build an incredible company over the next few decades. Between the two of them, they did every job that needed doing at many points in those years. Under their leadership, Skyward Aviation became a company that not only provided excellent service to their customers but did so with heart.

Skyward Aviation Today
In 2022, Gene Pecar and his partners acquired Skyward Aviation. Gene Pecar served in the Air Force for 21 years. He started his career as an F-16 Maintenance Crew Chief and after 4 years became an F-16, C-38, and C-40 pilot. Gene brings extensive aviation and business experience, making him a logical next step for the growth of Skyward. The Corrados continue to be a critical part of the team, both for the work they provide (Ronald as Director of Maintenance and Susan as an accounting consultant) and the vast experience they offer.
Skyward Aviation continues to grow, having now expanded to two bases – the original one at Washington County Airport (AFJ), and a second one at Manassas Regional Airport (HEF).
